Supporting Your Body Beyond the Injections

Three experts in their fields: Nutrition, Hypnotherapy and Skin Care, have come together to write a 3-part blog to support you to prepare or post “Life After GLP-1 Medication

Starting with Sarah-Jane Johnston, Founder of evolution34

GLP-1 medications are becoming an increasingly familiar part of the conversation around weight management, appetite and blood sugar control. But what happens when you stop taking them?

At evolution34, we believe that medication can be one part of a person’s health journey, but education, nutrition and sustainable lifestyle changes are also important when it comes to supporting long-term health.

What is GLP-1?

GLP-1 is a hormone that plays an important role in regulating blood sugar levels and appetite. It is naturally produced in the intestines and released into the bloodstream after we eat.

One of its primary roles is helping the body manage how it uses and stores energy from food. GLP-1 also contributes to maintaining balanced blood sugar levels and can influence how much we want to eat.

It stimulates the pancreas to release insulin and sends signals to the brain that promote feelings of satiety. This can help reduce appetite.

GLP-1 medications work by mimicking some of these effects, helping people manage appetite and blood sugar.

The growing use of GLP-1 medication

The use of GLP-1 medications is expected to increase significantly.

Your guide highlights that the NHS is expected to offer the GLP-1 medication tirzepatide (Mounjaro) to approximately 220,000 people in England during the first three years of its rollout.

The initial beneficiaries are expected to be people with the highest clinical need, typically those with a BMI over 40 and multiple obesity-related health conditions.

Over a potential implementation period of up to 12 years, NICE estimates that as many as 3.4 million people in England could eventually be eligible for treatment.

With more people potentially using these medications, understanding how to support nutrition alongside them — and beyond them — becomes increasingly important.

What about side effects?

GLP-1 injections, sometimes referred to as “slimming jabs”, can be associated with side effects. Those highlighted in the guide include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation, as well as loss of muscle and hair, none of these are going to help you feel great and the latter two will be hard to regain when you stop taking the medication.

Nutrition can play an important role in supporting overall wellbeing and helping people make appropriate food choices while using GLP-1 medication.

Supporting your body with food

I have put together a GLP-1 support meal plan that focuses on nutrient-dense foods rather than simply eating less.

The approach outlined in the guide includes an average of around 1,500 calories, alongside: lean protein, healthy fats, fibre and whole foods.  These foods can help create a nutrient-dense eating pattern focused on supporting better health outcomes.  Eating foods that support your nutritional needs may also help reduce the chances of experiencing side effects and support overall health.

What happens after GLP-1 medication?

For anyone considering stopping or completing their GLP-1 medication journey, having the right support can make the next stage feel less overwhelming.

The aim is not simply to focus on the number on the scales. It is about developing knowledge, confidence and practical habits that can support healthier choices for the long term.

If you are using GLP-1 medication or thinking about life after GLP-1 medication, nutrition support can help you understand what your body needs and how to build sustainable eating habits around your lifestyle.

Your health journey doesn’t have to end when the injections do. It could be the beginning of your next evolution.

This is where a wider approach can help and why the three experts have come together to provide a holistic approach to the rest of your life, to help you to not go back to old eating habits, focus and the original triggers for unhealthy eating patterns and the post mediation anxiety we are starting to see, and helping you to get the colour and shine back into your skins.

Want to discuss how my meal plan could help you then book a complimentary consultation with me…take back control of your eating habits, and with my helping hand the fear and anxiety of what to eat, and not worrying about putting all the weight back on!
